Dear colleagues,

This is just to remind you that JANUARY 15 at 13:00 (CET) is the deadline for abstract submission to the session organized by  IGCP 648 at EGU2020. We acknowledge those who have already submitted their abstracts and encourage those who are planning to attend to submit theirs before the said deadline.

The same deadline at 13:00 (CET) on JANUARY 15 applies for the submission of the Preliminary Registration Form (Attached) to the Field conference in Spain and Portugal (9-18 May, 2020). We also thank those who have already pre-registered and inform that some seats are still available. Full registration forms and detailed information, including cost and payment details, will be send to pre-registered persons by the end of January 2020.

Apologies for multiple mailing. Please feel free to disseminate this message to your potentially interested contacts.

We look forward to meeting you next May, and wish you Merry Christmas and a joyful 2020.

Kind regards,

Cecilio Quesada (on behalf of the co-conveners of both events)

Dear colleague,

You are kindly invited to consider your participation in one or all of the following two events that IGCP Project 648: “Supercontinent Cycles and Global Geodynamics” is organizing in May 2020:

  1. Session GD6.2 at EGU2020 (3-8 May, 2020): “From Gondwana to Pangaea: terrane “teleportation” during the assembly of the last supercontinent and geodynamic drivers” (https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2020/session/35123)

Conveners: Cecilio Quesada (IGME, Madrid, Spain), J. Brendan Murphy (STFX Univ, Antigonish, NS, Canada), Weihua Yao (Sun Yat-sen Univ, Guangzhou, China), Daniel Pastor Galán ((FRIS, Tohuku Univ, Japan)

Abstract submission is already open and will close at 13:00 (CET) on January 15. Abstract submission can be made through the same link given above after the title of the session or via the general website of EGU 2020 (https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2020).

  1. Field conference in Spain and Portugal (9-18 May, 2020): “From the amalgamation of Gondwana to the breakup of Pangea: evidence in SW Iberia”

Led by: Cecilio Quesada and Teresa Sánchez-García, Instituto Geológico Minero de España (IGME), Madrid, Spain; J. Javier Álvaro, Instituto de Geociencias IGEO (CSIC-UCM), Madrid, Spain; Pedro Terrinha, Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA) and Faculdade de Ciências, Universidade de Lisboa, Lisboa, Portugal.

Attached is the preliminary program of the field trip but please notice that it is still subjected to some changes related to logistics. Also attached is a preliminary registration form that we encourage to fill and return to quesada.cecilio@gmail.com not later than November 30, 2019. Before the end of this year the final program, cost and payment method will be distributed to those responding to the preliminary registration.

The trip will start at Madrid airport at 2:00 pm (CET) on Saturday May 9. Those attending the EGU2020 meeting may consider booking a flight from Vienna to Madrid allowing their arrival at Madrid airport prior to the 2:00 pm appointment on May 9 (early booking is recommended as many Spaniards usually attend the EGU). Transport will be by coach. Many observations will be made on road cuts (please bring reflective jackets) and there will not be either long or strenuous walks involved. Weather in southern Iberia is very mild in May, ca. 27ºC in the central hours and 13-18ºC at night. We may have some rain but you will surely need solar protection. The trip will end in Lisbon in the evening of Sunday, May 17, with the coach returning to Madrid airport in the morning of Monday, May 18. However, you may consider departing to your destination from Lisbon airport instead of returning to Madrid, in which case you are kindly ask to let us know as soon as possible.

Attendance is limited to 35 delegates, strictly eligible on a first-come, first-served basis. Accompanying persons will be admitted only if the 35 limit is not reached.

The cost of the trip, depending on the number of attendants and other logistical issues, cannot be established yet but it will probably be in the range 1,000-1,200 euro per attendant. We will try our best to make it minimal!

Your participation in any (or all) of these IGCP 648 events will be greatly appreciated, and I look forward to seeing you next May.

Please feel free to redistribute this Email to your contacts that might be potentially interested. Apologies for multiple mailing!
